We offer comprehensive resources for persons with low vision.  Our goal is to support and teach individuals to utilize their existing vision in order to maximize functional independence.  This may be accomplished through the use of adaptive strategies including lighting, contrast, magnification, field enhancement, positioning, and with the aid of optical and non-optical devices.

LOW VISION SPECIALTY EXAM

We are proud to be working with Dr. Dexter Street, PA, Low Vision Optometrist, who provides comprehensive low vision evaluations with compassion.  Our state-of-the-art center offers the newest examination technology to help you understand your visual problem.  We will help you find ways to be as active as possible with your remaining vision.  Dr. Street works with your primary eye care specialist to ensure you receive the best individualized eye care.

MAGNIFIERS AND OTHER OPTICAL AIDS

You will have the opportunity to purchase optical aids from our Low Vision Dispensary.  We offer a vast assortment of magnifiers from Eschenbach, Schweizer, Coil, Reizen, etc. in hand-held, illuminated, stand, pocket, and head-borne varieties.  If available, you may choose to borrow items from our lending library for recycled magnification aids.

NON-OPTICAL AIDS

Non-optical aids, such as lamps, bold line paper, and large print books, help people be involved in all of life's activities.  A thorough selection of non-optical aids complement the center.  Whether it is a high contrast item that you seek, or a large print or talking product, we can help.  We stock clocks, timers, universal remote controls, watches, kitchen aids, writing and reading aids, grooming aids, games, toys, educational materials, books, labeling options, thermometers, scales, and much more.

DEMONSTRATION

Our trained staff will provide you with hands-on demonstrations of our optical and non-optical aids including adaptive computer software and hardware, as well as electronic magnification devices such as closed circuit televisions. You may choose to participate in our rental program or to borrow items from the lending library for recycled magnification aids (if available).

COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Upon visiting the Community Low Vision Center, you will also be provided with information and referral to available community resources.  Many Federal, State, regional, and local agencies are available; we can help point you in the right direction for related services such as books on tape.
